Word Beginners (Level 1)
Course Details:
The Word Beginners course is recommended for novice users who wish to update their word skills and use Microsoft Word effectively. This course will allow you to produce a well formatted document.
We assume that you have no or little existing knowledge of Word and want to gain experience in how Microsoft Word can be used both at home and in the workplace.
Course Information:
Once completed, you should be able to understand and apply the following concepts:
- Look at the Microsoft Word environment.
- Look at the Quick Access Toolbar and how to apply buttons.
- Understand the Ribbon and associated groups.
- Create, modify, and save a Word document.
- How to edit text.
- Undo and redo commands, plus their shortcut keys.
- Use of the copy and paste commands.
- Use of the clipboard.
- Insert a hyperlink to attend a meeting or to organise a conference for your workplace.
- Character and paragraph formatting.
- Various tabs and how to apply them to the ruler.
- Create tabs with precise positions using the Tab dialog box.
- Formatting the page.
- Spell check the documents and the use of the Thesaurus.
- Shortcut keys – there are many!
- Headers and footers including formatting hints for your document.
- Print Preview and the use of the Page Setup hyperlink.
- How to use the Editing group of buttons especially Find and Replace.
Word Intermediate (Level 2)
Course Details:
The Word Intermediate course is recommended for those who wish to update their word skills to an intermediate level and use the program more effectively. The course will allow to produce a well formatted document incorporating other features such as styles.
We assume that you have an existing knowledge of Word and want to gain further experience of how to use Microsoft Word to a more competent level.
Course Information:
Once completed, you should be able to understand and apply the following concepts:
- Insert a Table of Contents.
- Update and modify a Table of Contents.
- Use of the Styles group and the Styles task pane.
- How to create your own styles and apply them to your document.
- Modify your styles and look at the Styles Options area.
- Use of the Design tab, which includes cover page, page borders, watermarks, themes and document formatting group.
- Section and column breaks – how to apply them.
- More on headers and footers, plus how Current Position can affect your document.
- Apply borders to the header and footer areas.
- Mail Merge and how to create a recipient list.
- Text Boxes – how to link, insert text and make a corporate document.
- Insert a Table – revision plus inserting a simple formula.
- Insert Object – Look at how to embed Excel and other programs into Word. A true timesaver!
Word Advanced (Level 3)
Course Details:
The Word Advanced course is recommended for those who wish to update their word skills to an advanced level and use the program to produce corporate and complex documents.
We assume that you have a particularly good understanding of how Word operates or alternatively, have completed the Word Intermediate course as a prerequisite.
Course Information:
Once completed, you should be able to understand and apply the following concepts:
- Insert Smart Art Graphics and how to modify them.
- Creating an AutoMark and Index files.
- Inserting Footnotes and Endnotes.
- Using Autocorrect.
- Use of Bookmarks to find information.
- Application of Building Blocks and Quick Parts.
- Tracking Changes.
- Inserting Fields including a Fillin field.
- The Developer tab – how it can be useful for your documents.
- Macros – How to automatically adjust settings with the click of a button or shortcut key.
- VBA – simple coding techniques to modify a Macro.
